Performance engine
The new WRX lineup comes standard with a new Subaru BOXER 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, producing 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and a broader torque curve with 258 pound-feet of torque from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm.
We knew it was muscular, but it adds a little more depth this year. To make it more powerful and especially more responsive to throttle demands, the displacement was increased, and the air intakes were modified. The result is a more stable torque delivery over a more extended rev range. This is coupled with an all-new, exceptionally fast, performance automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.

For handling
You can't create a 2023 Subaru WRX without thinking about handling. To achieve this, the new sports car has been fitted with updated track-tuned suspensions with faster compression.
It goes even further with adaptive dampers. The chassis has also been designed to be more rigid. In addition, a new electric power steering system separates the driver input shaft from the engine assist shaft. These improvements increase response, provide greater precision and, therefore, a more intuitive steering feel. All this while retaining the standard symmetrical all-wheel drive and the presence of the SI-Drive driving mode selector.
The new Subaru Performance Transmission
With its new 2023 WRX, Subaru now relies on a new performance transmission. Automatic, based on the already known continuously variable transmissions, the new Subaru SPT is intended to improve performance by increasing gear changes by 30% and downshifts by 50%.
The transmission has eight gears and a Rev-Matching system that makes shifting even faster, featuring steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The new transmission detects when it's in the middle of a shift and pushes the revs to the maximum without shifting prematurely. This prevents unexpected power loss. The SPT has also been optimized for acceleration and response. Finally, an optional external cooler has been added for those who want to push their WRX on a track for more extended periods. True enthusiasts will also appreciate the 4.44 final drive ratio.
