Why use winter tires?
Winter tires are made with rubber compounds that remain flexible in cold weather, and their tread design is engineered to provide better grip on dry, wet, icy, or snowy roads.
Here are the types of tires commonly used in Canada:
Winter tires: Strongly recommended as soon as the temperature drops below 7 ºC, regardless of road conditions. Their softer rubber compound and deeper grooves provide the best possible traction on snow- or ice-covered roads.
All-season tires: These tires are designed to deliver balanced performance across a wide range of weather conditions. In cooler weather, all-season tires perform better than summer tires; when temperatures rise above 10 ºC, they become more effective than winter tires.
Summer tires: Designed to perform best when the temperature is above 7 ºC, summer tires provide excellent grip on dry pavement and surprisingly effective water evacuation on wet roads.
