Another safety first from Subaru
Launched on the 2019 Subaru Forester, the DriverFocus distraction mitigation system uses a driver-facing camera and facial recognition software to monitor signs of fatigue or inattention. Working in harmony with Subaru EyeSight® driver assistance technology, this cutting-edge system has been designed to tackle the persistent issue of traffic accidents caused by distraction or fatigue. In 2019, the DriverFocus system was named Best New Safety Technology by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
Better Attention, Better Safety
Vehicles equipped with DriverFocus technology feature a dedicated camera, mounted just above the multifunction display. This camera is aimed at the driver's face and analyzes eye and head movements to detect signs of fatigue or inattention, in which case the system triggers visual and audible alerts to refocus the driver's attention on the road, much like an automatic co-pilot.
A Convenient Environment for the Whole Family
The DriverFocus distraction mitigation system can store and recognize up to five different drivers. When a driver takes their place behind the wheel, the camera analyzes their face and adjusts the vehicle settings according to their size, build, and preferences. A personalized welcome message appears on the multifunction display, and the seat position, mirror settings, and climate control adjust automatically to the driver's preferences.
